At Daka, we help private horse owners with professional and respectful collection.

Booking and payment

To book the collection of a horse or pony, you must use our self-service portal.
Registration must take place no later than 24 hours after the horse is confirmed dead.

How a collection works

  • Place the horse no more than three metres from a all-weather road.
  • Collection will be made using a large lorry, which requires suitable access conditions.
  • The horse is handled by experienced drivers and lifted into the vehicle using a crane and grab.
  • You do not need to be present at collection.

FAQ: Booking and collection

Private horse owners must book and pay for collection online via Daka’s Shop.

Collection is scheduled after booking. A precise time for collection is not provided, and collection may take place as early as approximately 5 am.

In some cases we can collect on the same day as you order. As a rule, collection takes place the following day. Since the routes are planned the night before, we cannot guarantee a specific collection time.

No, as a general rule, it is not necessary, provided that access is not an issue.

As a rule, we collect from private horse owners every weekday.

On a number of islands, specific collection days apply:

  • Fanø: Thursday
  • Orø: Thursday
  • Møn: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Bogø: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Langeland: Monday, Wednesday and Friday
  • Ærø: Tuesday (during the summer months, Tuesday and Friday)
  • Samsø: Friday (during the summer, Tuesday and Friday)
  • Læsø: Friday (during the summer, Tuesdays and Fridays)

Changes may occur during public holidays.

The collection of dead horses is normally carried out by Daka.

Falck can arrange collection from private homes, and pet crematoria exist.

Due to the risk of disease transmission, it is not possible to deliver a dead horse to a Daka plant yourself.

FAQ: Location and Access

The horse must be positioned no more than three metres from a road suitable for vehicles (asphalt or gravel), so that the lorry’s crane can reach it.

At the same time, there must be a safe distance from live stock in stables and in fields.

The collection will take place with a large lorry approximately four metres in height. The access road must therefore be able to support heavy traffic, and the driver must be able to turn around on the property or reverse in. The driver must not reverse out onto a public road.

There must also be a minimum clearance of six metres, as the lifting is carried out using a grapple and a crane.

FAQ: Prices and fees

 

  • Horse without shoes: DKK 1,910.00
  • Horse with shoes: DKK 4,249.00
  • Calf under 3 months: DKK 669.00

Prices include VAT.

In addition, a road and administration charge totalling DKK 108.75 is added.

For horses and ponies, a contribution of DKK 178.50 is also paid into the Horse Retirement Fund.

Current prices are always shown in Daka’s Shop.

When handling and transporting horses, any metal parts must be removed. Therefore, the collection of horses with horseshoes is more expensive.

It is therefore usually a cheaper option for you as a customer if the shoes are removed before collection.

The price is based on the costs of collection, transport and handling, and not on the size of the animal.
