Daka’s new sustainability report is now published. It documents significant CO₂ savings, investments in logistics and new business areas, as well as improved financial results. The report provides a comprehensive overview of environmental, social, and business efforts in 2024.
At Daka, we work purposefully to make the best possible use of by-products from the agricultural and food sectors—while also reducing climate and environmental impact. This year’s report presents results, data, and trends from across the organization, including specific improvements and upcoming initiatives.
Large-Scale CO₂ Reductions
In 2024, Daka’s activities helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 242,000 tons of CO₂e through the recycling of by-products into feed, fertilizer, and bioenergy. In total, from 2018 to 2024, approximately 1.8 million tons of CO₂e have been saved—equivalent to the annual emissions of around 70,000 Danish households.
A concrete example of our climate efforts is the new ReFood facility in Køge, which came online in September 2024. In Q4 alone, it led to a 14% reduction in transport-related CO₂ emissions compared to the same period the previous year.
Strategic Management and Prioritization
As part of our forward-looking sustainability work, Daka conducted a double materiality assessment in 2024. This analysis evaluates both the company’s impact on its surroundings and how sustainability issues affect Daka’s business. It also forms the basis for our preparation for the EU’s upcoming CSRD Omnibus requirements and helps us prioritize efforts where they matter most—for both the climate and the company.
Focus on Work Environment and Data Security
Sustainability also means taking everyday responsibility—for our employees and for the digital infrastructure that supports our operations. In 2024, new policies on well-being and prevention were launched, targeted safety campaigns were carried out, and employee involvement increased. These efforts contributed to a decrease in the number of workplace accidents resulting in absence.
At the same time, cybersecurity and data protection became a strategic focus area, with technical upgrades, staff training, and preparations for both the Danish D-label and the upcoming NIS2 legislation.
Stronger Collaboration and Financial Results
2024 was also the year Daka experienced a significant financial boost. Stronger collaboration across the SARIA Group, process optimization, and an increased volume of raw materials all contributed to this progress. After a challenging 2023, the company is back on track with renewed momentum and a clearer shared direction.
