How a collection works

Here you can read about how the collection takes place – from registration until our driver leaves the property.

Registration of animals

Collection is subject to correct and timely registration.

Most customers sign up via Daka's app, PigUp & Ko, which is used to record the number and type of animals.

Registration as a customer does not take place via the app. Once you are set up as a customer, you will receive a login, which provides access to the app and other solutions.

Always remember:

Register the correct number and type of animals.

Ensure the animals are in the collection point when you book them in.

Register dead animals no later than 24 hours after they are found dead.

What happens after registration?

Once you have registered the animals, we plan and carry out the collection with regard to veterinary safety.

Here you will find answers to some of the most common questions about collection.

Our routes are planned so that the lorrys capacity is utilised as efficiently as possible.

When registration and actual quantity match, we can:

  • plan more efficiently
  • keep transport and handling costs down
  • offer the best possible collection rates

If there are more animals present than registered, it can mean:

  • that there is no room in the lorry for all the animals
  • that the collections from other customers on the route are affected
  • that a fee may be charged
  • that the driver in certain cases may continue driving without taking all the animals along

We collect fallen stock every weekday as part of our regular routes.

The route planning is dynamic. This means that late sign-ups can in some cases still be included on the day's route if there is available capacity.

Planning takes place with regard to both logistics and veterinary safety. In collaboration with the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, we have an overview of holdings where infection has been registered, and collections are planned in accordance with applicable rules to minimise the risk of the spread of disease.

The collection time is updated continuously in the app, and you can also choose to be notified of the expected collection time via text message or email.

For the collection to be carried out safely and efficiently, our lorries must be able to reach the collection point and operate under safe conditions.

This means, among other things, that:

  • access must be passable for a lorry
  • there must be sufficient space for manoeuvring on the property
  • the lorry must be able to turn round on the property or back into the area so that it does not have to reverse onto a public road
  • there must be sufficient headroom along the access route and approx. 6 metres at the collection point
  • ground conditions and access must be able to support the size and weight of the lorry

The driver works from a platform on the driver's side of the truck and must, as far as possible, avoid contact with the ground during collection. Therefore, it is important that the truck can be positioned correctly in relation to the collection point.

All farms must have a collection point for storing fallen stock until collection.

The collection point must be arranged so that:

  • dead animals are protected from birds and other scavengers
  • the risk of the spread of infection is minimised
  • there is a suitable distance to live animals, barns and enclosures
  • the animals can be kept securely until collection

A properly designed collection point contributes to good biosecurity and helps protect both your own and other herds from infection.

Collection takes place with a timber grab, which places demands on containers and other equipment.

It is important that:

  • Containers are positioned freely and easily accessible
  • The container must be positioned so that the handles face away from the side where Daka's lorry will park for collection.
  • Grab rings, hooks and fittings are intact and functional

If equipment is defective or inappropriately placed, the collection may be delayed. There is also a risk of damage to property, and in special cases, the driver may have to drive on without collecting the registered items.

In some cases, collection cannot be carried out as planned.

This may be caused by, for example:

  • missing or incorrect registration
  • inadequate access conditions
  • inappropriate placement of animals or equipment
  • conditions that make collection unsafe in terms of safety or infection control

If the collection cannot be completed, it may result in a fee.

Collection of horses differs in some respects from other collections and must be ordered via Daka's self-service solution.

In short:

  • collection is ordered online only
  • routes are planned dynamically, and a precise collection time can therefore not always be given
  • The horse must be positioned so that there is unobstructed access and sufficient clearance for the lorry
  • As a general rule, you do not need to be present for the collection.
