Veterinary safety

Veterinary safety is a central part of Daka's work with animal by-products.

The work is regulated by the by-product regulation and organised so that the risk of disease transmission between herds
is restricted throughout the chain.

Focus on disease transmission and traceability

Collection of fallen stock requires correct recording, work processes and documentation.

This applies in particular to:

  • spread between herds
  • correct link to origin
  • traceability from collection to further processing and final product

Planning and routes

Collections are planned continuously based on current information regarding herds and disease status, drawing on data from sources including the CHR register.

This ensures that collection is carried out with regard to both disease control and the daily operations of the individual customer.

The planning takes place directly in Daka's transport system and is updated continuously.

Booking and digital support

Correct and timely booking is a prerequisite for limiting the risk of disease between herds.

Daka supports customers' daily work through digital solutions, where collections are registered quickly and accurately, and information on livestock, category and collection is included directly in planning and documentation.

Today, Daka's app is a key tool for many customers and helps ensure that information is registered correctly from the start.

Collection and equipment

Veterinary safety depends to a large extent on the physical environment at the client's premises and the conditions surrounding collection.

Daka is in ongoing dialogue with farmers regarding the correct layout of collection points and access conditions, as well as the selection and use of equipment.

Transport equipment is disinfected after unloading at the facility to reduce the risk of transmission between collections.

Cooperation and control

The work on veterinary safety is carried out in close cooperation with authorities and industry organisations, including the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration and the Danish Agriculture & Food Council.

There is an ongoing dialogue regarding requirements, practice and development, so that workflows and advisory services support disease minimisation as well as Danish livestock production and export.

Daka also carries out random spot checks in collaboration with the Danish Agriculture and Food Council, focusing on the design of collection points and collection practices.

Veterinary emergency preparedness

Daka is a key player in Denmark's veterinary emergency preparedness.

This means that Daka provides a nationwide collection and handling capacity that can be adapted quickly in the event of outbreaks of contagious livestock diseases.

In the event of outbreaks, special procedures apply for collection, transport and further handling, which are determined by the authorities and implemented in Daka's operations.

Daka's infrastructure, access to data, and customisation of routes and collections help ensure that the handling of fallen stock is carried out correctly and in a controlled manner, even under stricter conditions.
